Former Georgian president Mikheil Saakashvili becomes stateless citizen

Monitoring Desk: Former President of Georgia Mikheil Saakashvili has become stateless citizen because Kiev has withdrawn his Ukrainian citizenship.

According to RBS Ukraine, former President of Georgia Mikheil Saakashvili who withdrew his Georgian citizenship for getting Ukrainian citizenship is no more Ukrainian citizen.

According to the online newspaper, citizenship was withdrawn due to unreliable information provided by Saakashvili when he applied for citizenship of Ukraine.

According to newspaper, Saakashvili wrote in questionnaire for citizenship that he was not tried or was under trial of any case in his mother country but his given information were contrary to facts because he was under trial in his country when he was applying for citizenship of Ukraine. It is pertinent to mentioned that Georgian newspapers were reporting in year 2015 that Georgian police had issued a warrant for his arrest.

It may be mentioned that Saakashvili served two presidential terms between 2004 and 2013 in Eastern European country of Georgia and was granted Ukrainian citizenship in 2015 when President Poroshenko graced him for official assignment in Ukraine. He was raised to the level of Governor Odessa region in 2015 and served the region till year 2016 when he resigned from his position.

In November 2016 Saakashvili created a new political party called “Movement of New Forces” in Ukraine and demanded early parliamentary elections in Ukraine. In February 2017, the Ministry of Justice of Ukraine registered Movement of New Forces officially as a political party.

His wife Sandra Roelofs, is a Dutch citizen and he had been teaching in United States.
