ISLAMABAD, Pakistan: Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif on Saturday congratulated the Iranian President Dr Hassan Rouhani on his re-election for the second term.

The 68-year-old Hassan Rouhani won the 12th Presidential Election held across Iran on Friday with a thumping majority. He secured 56.88 percent of the total cast votes while his opponent Seyyed Ebrahim Raeisi took 38.55 percent votes.

In a message of felicitation to the Iranian president on Saturday, the prime minister said that the Iranian people had chosen President Hassan Rouhani to guide the Country with his visionary and astute leadership through which Iran had made significant achievements in all the national and international domains.

The prime minister said that the relations between Pakistan and Iran were rooted in shared bonds of history, culture, traditions and faith.

Nawaz Sharif reiterated his desire to work together with the Iranian president on continued endeavours to strengthen cooperation between the two Countries in diverse fields, forge a strong economic partnership and make earnest efforts towards solidarity, peace and progress in the region.
