NationalRailways to install elevators on 14 railway stations

ISLAMABAD, Pakistan: Pakistan Railways is planning to install automatic elevators besides construction of overhead bridges at 14 major railway stations across the country for provision of modern facilities to the passengers.

Pakistan Railways has sent PC-1 of the project for final approval, sources in the Ministry of Railways told the state-run news agency in Islamabad on Tuesday.

The railway stations include Karachi, Hyderabad, Rohri, Bahawalpur, Multan, Raiwind, Lahore, Rawalpindi, Peshawar, Quetta, Sahiwal, Okara, Khanewal and Faisalabad, they added.

The sources said that Pakistan Railways was undergoing a drastic change and it’s necessary to keep it abreast with the modern technologies of world.

To a question, they said the revenue of the department has increased from Rs 18 billion to Rs 40 billion during the last three years of the government.

They said the department has also directed the authorities concerned for availability of wheel chairs at railway stations for disabled.
