National1,681 transgenders registered in NADRA database

ISLAMABAD, Pakistan: As many as 1,681 transgenders are registered in the database of National Database and Registration Authority (NADRA) from across the Country, according to the official record.

As per the official record, transgenders are registered in the NADRA database from all regions of the Country including Punjab, Sindh, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, Balochistan, Azad Jammu and Kashmir, Federally Administrated Tribal Areas (FATA) and Islamabad Capital Territory (ICT).

Maximum number of transgenders are registered in Punjab as 1,141 followed by Sindh 318 and Khyber Pakhtunkhwa 110. Whereas only 75 transgenders are registered in Balochistan, 20 in FATA and eight in Islamabad Capital Territory.

Currently, a ‘Transgender Persons (Protection of Rights) Bill-2017’ is being tabled in the Senate which has been referred to the Senate Functional Committee of Human Rights for further discussion.
