NationalPakistan, Afghanistan will fight terrorism together: COAS

RAWALPINDI, Pakistan: The Chief of Army Staff (COAS) General Qamar Javed Bajwa on Monday said that Pakistan and Afghanistan had fought against terrorist and would continue this effort together.

While presiding over a high level security meeting at the army’s general headquarters in Rawalpindi, the COAS said that enhanced security arrangements along the Pak-Afghan border were to fight the common enemy i.e. terrorists of all hue and colour.

The COAS directed for more effective border coordination and cooperation with the Afghan Security Forces to prevent cross border movement of terrorists including all types of illegal movement.

The Army Chief also welcomed recent proposals from the Afghan authorities to take forward the mutual coordination for result-oriented efforts against terrorism.

Recently, Islamabad intensified its efforts to persuade Kabul to take strict action against terror outfits like Tehrik-i-Taliban Pakistan (TTP) and Jamaat-ul-Ahrar carrying subversive activities in Pakistan from Afghanistan.

Following a series of bombings across Pakistan, the COAS also expressed his concerns with the Resolute Support Mission (RSM) Commander in Afghanistan General John Nicholson on February 17 over continued acts of terrorism in Pakistan with impunity from Afghanistan.

Pakistan army also demanded the handover of 76 terrorists to it by the Afghan government.
