RAIWIND, Pakistan: The Federal Railways Minister Khawaja Saad Rafique has said that when the incumbent government took over in 2013, losses of Pakistan Railways were Rs 32 billion which has now been reduced to Rs 27 billion.

While addressing the foundation stone laying ceremony of the up-gradation work of the Raiwind Railway Station in Raiwind on Saturday, the minister said that all out efforts are being made to make Railways profit oriented department and loss is being reduced every year.

The minister said that now condition of railways is far better than that of 2013. He said that historic steps have been taken to modernize railways and its systems.

The railways minister said that the dream of upgrading the Stations of Pakistan Railways has started to materialize. He said that the new Railway Station at Raiwind will facilitate thousands of the devotees who come to attend congregation of Tablighi Jammat.

Saad Rafique said that Raiwind Railway Station lies on the main railway track, route of China Pakistan Economic Corridor (CPEC) Project and this railway track is being upgraded under CPEC, and 350 Chinese Engineers are working on it. He said that after the up-gradation of the railway track, trains will be operated at the speed of 160 Kilometer per hour.

Moreover, the railways minister said that pensioners of Pakistan railways are now getting pension through online system.

The minister said that the Pakistan Railways has launched the e-ticketing system in an effort to facilitate passengers in booking their seats from anywhere in the Country. He said that the online system has been introduced for 48 trains.

Likewise, Saad Rafique said that 90 percent of the land record of Pakistan Railways has been computerized.
