SHEIKHUPURA, Pakistan: Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif Wednesday said that Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N)-led government was committed to progress & development, and undertaking a string of projects across the Country to boost national economy, generate employment and reduce poverty.

While addressing a gathering after reviewing the pace of progress of the Bhikki Power Plant in Sheikhupura, the prime minister said that only a year back, he visited the site of the project that was located in between the fields; however, today a huge infrastructure had cropped up in a short span of time.

The prime minister said that the pace of progress on the project was very impressive and unbelievable. He said that the project would be known in the times ahead for being very cost-effective.

The prime minister said that having a total capacity of 1,180 megawatts, the gas powered Bhikki power plant would be fully operational by the end of 2018. He said that almost 84 percent work had been completed and the plant would be producing 716 megawatts initially before the summer 2017.

Nawaz Sharif lauded the efforts of Punjab Chief Minister Shahbaz Sharif, the Chinese team of engineers and other concerned people working on the project.

In addition, he said that several new power projects were in final stages which after completion would solve the energy shortage issue in the Country.

The prime minster said that no other government in the past bothered to work on motorways. However, the present government was now working on Lahore-Karachi Motorway speedily, he added.

Earlier, the prime minister visited different parts of the Bhikki Power Plant and personally observed the progress of the project.
