LAHORE, Pakistan: Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif will visit Sheikhupura on Wednesday to personally monitor progress of the Bhikki Power Plant, a gas powered plant with a total capacity of 1,180 megawatts.

The Bhikki Power Plant will be fully operational by the end of 2018. So far 84 percent work has been completed and the plant will be initially producing 716 megawatts before summer this year.

The ground breaking of 1,180 MW Bhikki Power Plant was performed by Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif on October 9, 2015.

The Bhikki power plant has one of the most efficient and state-of-the-art gas powered turbines that produce electricity without wastage and at the same time is environmentally friendly.

The plant is among the priority projects earmarked by the government to reduce electricity shortfall in the Country.

It is estimated that the Bhikki Power Project, due to its low cost and efficient plant machinery will save around Rs 250 billion over a period of 30 years.

Meanwhile, the prime minister was Chairing a high-level meeting at the Governor’s House in Lahore to view the progress regarding the ongoing development projects and law and order situation in Punjab.
