Government of PakistanPM Nawaz Sharif didn’t lie to Parliament: Marriyum Aurangzeb

ISLAMABAD, Pakistan: The Minister of State for Information and Broadcasting Marriyum Aurangzeb on Monday said that Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif didn’t tell any lie to the Parliament or the nation.

Talking to media persons in Islamabad following the Panamagate Case hearing in the Supreme Court on Monday, Marriyum Aurangzeb said that Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) Chairman Imran Khan should have recognized that cases could not be contested in the courts on the basis of mere desires.

The state minister maintained that the prime minister had no connection with Panama papers.

Earlier, a five-member larger bench of the Supreme Court headed by Justice Asif Saeed Khosa adjourned the hearing of Panama Paper case till Tuesday.

During today’s hearing, the prime minister’s Counsel Makhdoom Ali Khan continued his arguments and said that his client didn’t make any misstatement or lie in his addresses to the National Assembly and the nation.

Makhdoom said that article 66 of the Constitution gave freedom of speech to parliamentarians.

The prime minister’s Counsel said that speeches made by the parliamentarians on the floor of the House were not liable to be raised at any court proceedings. He said that only the Parliament could waive this privilege.

Moreover, he also argued that in all previous cases, the Supreme Court’s decision to disqualify the prime minister came only after sufficient evidence was submitted in the Court, citing the example of the disqualification case against ex-Prime Minister Yousaf Raza Gilani.
