MUMBAI, India: Famous Bollywood actor Om Puri passed away on Friday after he suffered a severe heart attack at the age of 66, leaving all the film fraternity and his fans saddened and in shock.

Om Puri reportedly died at his residence in Mumbai early Friday.

The filmmaker Ashoke Pandit was probably the first person who announced the news about Om Puri’s death on twitter.

The veteran Bollywood actor openly supported friendly ties between Pakistan and India through cultural interactions and films.

Recently, he was heavily criticized by Indian hardliners over his anti-Pak-Indo war comments at a time when cross-border firing had intensified and even Indian government claimed having conducted surgical strikes inside Pakistan.

Om Puri also featured in recently released Pakistani film ‘Actor In Law’ and was a frequent visitor to Pakistan. He also played the Character of former Pakistani President Zia-ul-Haq in Hollywood film “Charlie Wilson’s War”.

The Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi also condoled the sad demise of veteran actor Om Puri.

“The Prime Minister condoles the passing away of actor Om Puri & recalls his long career in theatre & films,” read a tweet on the Indian prime minister’s official Twitter account.
