ISLAMABAD, Pakistan: Following the retirement of Justice Anwar Zaheer Jamali as the Chief Justice of Supreme Court of Pakistan, the most senior judge Justice Mian Saqib Nisar on Saturday took oath as the new and 25th Chief Justice.

His oath was administered by President Mamnoon Hussain at a ceremony held at the President House in Islamabad on Saturday wherein Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif, Chairman Senate Mian Raza Rabbani, Speaker National Assembly Sardar Ayaz Sadiq, Governors of Punjab, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa and Balochistan, President Azad Jammu and Kashmir Masood Khan were present.

Similarly, Federal Ministers, Chief Minister of Gilgit-Baltistan, Services Chiefs, judges of the Supreme Court, Parliamentarians, diplomats, lawyers and senior civil officials were also present in the ceremony.

The president appointed Justice Mian Saqib Nisar as the new Chief Justice of Pakistan on December 7 for the period of two years and 18 days.

Justice Saqib Nisar replaced Justice Anwar Zaheer Jamali who relinquished his post on retirement on December 30. Justice Jamali served as the Chief Justice for 15 months.

Soon after assuming the charge of Chief Justice, Justice Saqib Nisar will soon face the uphill task of forming a Bench or Commission to take the Panama Case to its logical end, an unfinished job left behind by Justice Jamali as legacy for new Chief Justice.
