Government of PakistanUS Senate Foreign Relations Committee acknowledges Pakistan's role in regional peace

ISLAMABAD, Pakistan: The US Senate Foreign Relations Committee has acknowledged Pakistan’s role in promoting peace and security in the region and expressed the desire to strengthen bilateral ties.

In a meeting with Senate Foreign Relations Committee Chairman Senator Bob Corker and Ranking Member Senator Ben Cardin at the Capitol Hill in Washington, Special Assistant to Prime Minister on Foreign Affairs Tariq Fatemi thanked the Senate Foreign Relations Committee for its support and assistance to Pakistan.

Fatemi also appreciated the role of the US Congress in authorizing the critical counter-terrorism assistance that helped Pakistan in eradicating the terrorist networks operating from Federally Administrated Tribal Areas (FATA) and promoting peace and stability in the region, said a statement issued by the Foreign Office in Islamabad on Friday.

The special assistant briefed the leadership of US Senate Foreign Relations Committee on the massive human rights violations in Indian Occupied Kashmir and the Indian hostility at Line of Control (LoC).

Tariq Fatemi also apprised the Senators on the increasing negative implications for prospects of peace in South Asia because of Indian hostility and belligerence. He briefed the Senators on how Pakistan had turned the page by focusing on improving economy and security in the country during the last three years.

The Senate Foreign Relations Committee oversees the US foreign policy priorities across the globe and also authorizes the US economic and humanitarian assistance for partner countries.
