ISLAMABAD, Pakistan: International anti-corruption day would be observed on December 9 (Friday) across the globe including Pakistan with the theme ‘United against corruption for development, peace and security’.

International Anti-Corruption Day brings awareness to these issues and brings the citizens of the world together to fight this crime on a global basis.

According to the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP), funds lost to corruption are estimated at 10 times the amount of official development assistance.

Corruption is a serious crime that can undermine social and economic development in all societies.

This year UNODC and UNDP have developed a joint global campaign, focusing on how corruption affects education, health, justice, democracy, prosperity and development.

The 2016 joint international campaign focuses on corruption as one of the biggest impediments to achieving the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).

Corruption comes in many forms, bribery, price fixing, embezzlement are just a few of the crimes associated with corruption.

Corruption comes in many forms and happens in both developed and underdeveloped countries.

It affects the social, political and economic development of entire nations. It’s a crime that can destroy a business.

Since 2003, the United Nations Convention Against Corruption has recognized December 9 as International Anti-Corruption day.

“On International Anti-corruption Day, let us reaffirm our commitment to ending the deceit and dishonesty that threaten the 2030 Agenda and our efforts to achieve peace and prosperity for all on a healthy planet,”   said UN Secretary-General, Ban Ki-moon.
