CrimeApex Court directives Yousuf Gilani in Hajj corruption case

ISLAMABAD: Supreme Court on Tuesday issued notices to the former Prime Minister Syed Yousuf Raza Gilani to personally appear before it to face charges in Hajj corruption case.

The notices were also sent to Law Ministry and Attorney General of Pakistan Irfan Qadir.

During today’s hearing, an investigation officer told the Supreme Court bench, headed by Chief Justice Iftikhar Muhammad Chaudhry, that the assets of Syed Yousuf Raza Gilani increased rapidly after Hajj corruption scandal surfaced.

He said Gilani has also purchased land in Multan. The officer also told the court that the Law Ministry has refused to take action against the former PM on the ground of immunity.

At which, the CJP observed that Gilani doesn’t enjoy any immunity since he is not a serving prime minister.

The bench issued orders to the former PM to turn up on the next hearing, and adjourned the case for two weeks.
