ISLAMABAD: Filing of appeals against acceptance and rejection of nomination papers by Returning Office for general elections has begun.

General public can also file objections to the acceptance or rejection of nomination papers.

Thursday is the last day for filing of appeals. The election tribunals will dispose off appeals by 17th of this month.

9 tribunals headed by High Court judges have been setup in all the 4 provinces to hear the appeals.

5 tribunals have been set up in Punjab‚ 2 in Sindh and one each in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa and Balochistan.

The tribunals will decide the appeals by the 17th of this month and candidates could withdraw nominations the next day.

Final list of contesting candidates will be published on the 19th April.

Polling for the general elections both for National and Provincial Assemblies will be held on the 11th May.

In Khyber Pakhtunkhwa 8 candidates filed appeals with the Election Tribunal in Peshawar on Monday against rejection of their nomination papers by Returning Officers.

Those who filed the appeals include Syed Aqil Shah‚ Ateef ur Rehman‚ Gulzar Khan‚ Javed Iqbal‚ Gulshaid‚ Mussarrat Jan‚ Muhammad Khan and Tahira Bukhari.
