ISLAMABAD, Pakistan: Trade union officials representing media sector employees here on Saturday launched Pakistan Media Workers Federation (PMWF).
A pro tem committee of union officials was initially established to form a broad alliance of media sector trade unions and to devise innovative strategies, said a PMWF press release.
Pervaiz Akhtar Bhatti of All PTV Employees and Workers Union was appointed the chairman of the committee while others office-bearers included Zahid Hussain Latif of PBC Workers Union, vice chairman, Arshad Majeed Chaudhry of APP Employees Union, general secretary and Athar Hayat of SRBC/ ATV Employees Union, assistant secretary.
Kamran Khan of PBC Workers Union, Shahid Ali Butt and Raja Nadeem Iqbal of APP Employees Union, Binyamin Gill and Shahid Abbas Baloch of SRBC/ATV Employees Union, and Syed Abdullah Shuja Durani and Shafiq ur Rehman All PTV Employees and Workers Union.
The committee would make efforts to initiate mapping study to identify potential media sector unions in Pakistan and invite them to join the broad alliance by end of December 2016.
Draft a rules or constitution of the federation would be prepared by February 2017.
