KARACHI, Pakistan: The Sindh government Friday decided to start infrastructure development of Sindh Education City with the objective of promoting quality education.

The Sindh Chief Syed Murad Ali Shah took this decision while presiding over a meeting on the development of Sindh Education City at the CM House in Karachi.

The meeting was attended by ACS (Dev) M. Waseem, Chairperson Sindh Board of Investment (SBI) Naheed Memon, Principal secretary Naveed Kamran Baloch, Secretary Education Fazal Pechuho, Secretary Finance Hassan Naqvi, Architect Yawar Jilani and others.

Briefing the CM Sindh, Chairperson SBI Naheed Memon said that the Sindh Education City stretching over an area of 8921 acres was located on the Link Road connecting National Highway with Super Highway. Around 70 educational institutions would be established in the educational city.

The Architect said that he had developed a complete master plan of the city and its topographical survey has also been conducted.

Its development would cost around $800 million as per initial working but this amount would likely come down when a careful infrastructure plan is worked out.

The Chairperson said that there were some issues of land between land Utilization Department and Finance department.

Once those issues were settled the possession of the city would be handed over to the BoI.

On this the CM Sindh issued necessary directives to Chief Secretary Siddique Memon to get all the outstanding issues of the education city settled.

The CM Sindh directed the BoI chairperson to convene the meeting of its Board of Governors to take some policy decisions such as appointment of project director and release of allocated funds.

He also directed BoI to constitute Executive Management Committee (EMC) to float tenders and award contract and look after day to day affairs of the city.

The CM Sindh said that he was keen to start the Education City which turn to be one of the best educational city imparting quality education.
