ISLAMABAD, Pakistan: The Organisation of Islamic Cooperation (OIC) has invited the Chairman of Hurriyat forum Mirwaiz Umar Farooq to attend the meeting of its Contact Group on Jammu and Kashmir to be held in New York later this month.

The forum in a statement issued in Srinagar said that Mirwaiz Umar Farooq had received the invitation through a letter from the OIC Director General of Cabinet Yusuf Al-Othaimeen, according to Kashmir Media Service.

The annual Coordination Meeting of the OIC Foreign Ministers as well as the Meeting of the OIC Contact Group on Jammu and Kashmir will be held during the 71st session of the United Nations General Assembly (UNGA) at the UN Headquarters in New York on September 19-22, 2016.

The Hurriyat forum said, the participation of Mirwaiz in the meeting is not possible as he continues to remain under detention at Cheshma Shahi sub-jail in Srinagar and his passport stands seized by the authorities for the last four years.
