ISLAMABAD, Pakistan: Pakistan and Azerbaijan on Thursday agreed to form a Joint Working Group (JWG) for Establishment and Promotion of Defence Industrial Cooperation.

In a meeting with the Ambassador of Azerbaijan to Pakistan Dashgin Shikarov in Islamabad, the Federal Minister for Defence Production Rana Tanveer Hussain desired to sign a memorandum of understanding (MoU) on Defence Industrial Cooperation between Pakistan and Azerbaijan.

The minister appreciated existing training cooperation between the two countries and desired to expand it further.

Rana Tanveer proposed more frequent exchange of visits to each other’s institutions to explore new areas of mutual cooperation. He also stressed on the importance of student exchange program especially in the field of science and technology.

In addition, the minister expressed Pakistan’s whole hearted support for Azerbaijan’s plans of modernizing its armed forces. He highly appreciated the brotherly feelings of Azerbaijan government for Pakistan on all international forums including Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC) and United Nations.

In his remarks, Dashgin Shikarov said that Azerbaijan is looking for Joint ventures and transfer of technology to develop its defence industry.

The envoy conveyed his concerns on current Kashmir scenario and condemned the atrocities of Indian Army in Indian occupied Kashmir.

The Azerbaijan ambassador thanked government of Pakistan for its cooperation in development of defence industry of Azerbaijan and appreciated efforts of Minister of Defence Production in enhancing ties between the two countries.

The ambassador also extended invitation to the federal minister for defence production to attend Defence Exhibition (ADEX-2) being held from September 27-30, 2016 in Azerbaijan.
