KARACHI, Pakistan: Sindh Chief Minister Syed Murad Ali Shah has approved Sindh Population Policy 2016 and sanctioned Rs 1 billion budget for the implementation of new population policy in five years, under which Contraceptive Prevalence Rate (CPR) would enhanced from 30 to 40 per cent by 2020.

The CM Sindh giving vision of population policy 2016 said that it envisages promoting a prosperous, healthy, educated and knowledge-based society where all citizens are provided opportunities to access information and quality services about family planning and reproductive health care, said a statement on Friday.

Under the new policy the government has to take necessary measures, particularly awareness drive to enhancement CPR from 30 per cent in 2015 to 45 percent by 2020.

The policy envision is to achieve universal access to safe and quality reproductive health / family planning services by 2020.

It has to increase access to family planning and reproductive health services to the most remote and farthest areas of the province by 2017.

Under the policy, the population welfare department has to increase the efforts to reduce unmet need for family planning from 21 to 15 per cent by 2020.

The policy calls for attaining a decrease in fertility level from 3.9 in 2013 to 3 births per woman by year 2020.

It also calls for ensuring contraceptive commodity security upto 80 per cent at all public services outlets by 2018.

The department may explore its donors to finance further financial requirements, he said.
