ISLAMABAD, Pakistan: Pakistan Railways has devised a plan to develop green belts along with across the country railway tracks including various Railway stations.

An official of Pakistan Railways said that initially a pilot project is being undertaken from Shahadara to Raiwind for development of First Railway green corridor in joint venture with Punjab Horticultural Authority (PHA).

He said on successful completion of pilot project, similar projects will also be initiated at other available locations on the system.

Responding to a question, he denied the reports about the nonexistence of trees at some railway stations, saying the number of trees have progressively been increased through successive plantation campaigns.

He said the plantation of trees is a regular feature in Pakistan Railways and in every Monsoon season trees are planted in hundreds at Railway Stations and other open areas.

During 2014-15, he said approximately 49500 saplings were planted over the entire Railway network.
