ISLAMABAD, Pakistan: On the sidelines of the meeting of Standing Committee on Economic and Sustainable Development Affairs, Chairman Senate Mian Raza Rabbani held meetings with Parliamentary delegations of different countries in Islamabad and exchanged view on matters of mutual interests.
According to a press release issued here Wednesday, the Chairman Senate said the fast changing regional and global scenario calls for more cooperation in trade, economy and other fields to pave the way for regional integration.
“We are faced with various common challenges and joint efforts are required to overcome them,” Raza Rabbani remarked.
During the meetings, Chairman Senate underscored the need for enhanced parliamentary cooperation and give parliamentary diplomacy a chance to explore new horizons of mutual collaboration and resolve issues impeding economic development of the people of the region.
He emphasized to make the forum of Asian Parliamentary Assembly (APA) more vibrant and thanked the delegates for their participation in the meeting.
Delegates and parliamentary leaders appreciated the Chairman’s courageous remarks in the inaugural session of the meeting and endorsed his views for regional integration. They also lauded excellent arrangements made for this important meeting.
Parliamentary delegations of Bhuttan, Turkey, Iran, Thailand, Kuwait, Bahrain, Maldives, Indonesia, Russia, Cambodia, Afghanistan, Jordon, Sri Lanka and Lebanon called on Chairman Senate separately in which they expressed their desire to further promote mutual cooperation.
The two day meeting of Asian Parliamentary Assembly’s Committee on Economic and Sustainable Development ended with resolve to increase cooperation and strive to overcome challenges faced by the Asian countries.
During the second day of the meeting a constructive and extensive debate was carried out by the members of the committee on various issues of common importance such as climate change, availability of clean water and sanitation, poverty reduction, integrated energy market and women empowerment.
The committee adopted the report regarding the suggestions presented by the different delegates participating in the meeting.
