ISLAMABAD, Pakistan: In last three years US $ 1,90,000 has been allocated through foreign funded projects to eliminate child labour from the country.

A one year project, “Strengthening Capacity of Constituents to address Unacceptable forms of Work focusing Child Labour, Bonded Labour and Informal Economy Workers” was devised for May 2015 to April 2016.

This initiative was taken by the cooperation of Governments of Sweden and Denmark in Punjab and Balochistan allocating an amount of US $ 1,80,000, an official of ministry of overseas Pakistanis and Human Resource Development told APP.

Another project, “Elimination of Child Labour and Promotion of Decent Work in the Stora Enso Value Chain, with a focus on Pakistan”, was also held by Stora Enso, Finland (a global packaging industry, biomaterials, wood products and paper company) for a period of three years 2015-17.

The project was done in two cities of Punjab i.e Lahore and Kasur with an allocation of US $ 8,60,000, he informed.

As far as details of utilization of funds is concerned, he said, the same is available with labour departments of Balochistan and Punjab as subject “Labour” has been devolve d to the provinces under 18th Amendment and the Ministry of Overseas Pakistanis and Human Resource Development only deals with International Labour Organization (ILO) Country Office on matters of legislative nature.
