ISLAMABAD, Pakistan: Department of Archeology and Museums (DOAM) would soon have `Digitization Center for Documentation of the Artifacts and Archival Material’ to maintain the record of historical and unique artifacts.

The Master Plan for the project has been approved by the government at cost of Rs 5.4 million under Public Sector Development Programme (PSDP), 2016-17.

Talking to media, an official of DOAM said “it was necessary to maintain the record of rare and historical artifacts online to meet the modern day requirements”.

This Center would document and digitize all the antiquities in Islamabad Museum and also confiscated material by Pakistan Customs which include around 15000 antiquities.

These antiquities include historical and unique Coins, Manuscripts, Sculptures of Buddhists period, Pre-historic Terracotta figurines, Pottery Indus Antiquities and Miniature Paintings of Muslim and British collection.
