KARACHI: The Sindh High Court (SHC) on Tuesday approved protective bail for the former commerce minister Makhdoom Amin Fahim, a day after an anti-corruption court issued non-bailable arrest warrants for him in a case relating to a multi-million-rupee land scam.

The court approved ten days of protective bail for the Pakistan Peoples’ Party (PPP) senior leader, and ordered him to submit Rs 500,000 as guarantee.

Amin Fahim, along with a former commerce secretary and four others, are accused of involvement in embezzlement of funds in the purchase of land for National Insurance Company Limited (NICL) in violation of procurement rules in August 2009.

On Monday, a judge of the special federal anti-corruption court-II had issued non-bailable arrest warrants for Fahim, former secretary of commerce Suleman Ghani, two directors of NICL Amin Qasim Dada and Javed Syed, and Khalid Anwar and Amir Hussian. The court had also directed the FIA to arrest the accused and produce them in court by April 12.
