BISPNo political influence to be allowed in BISP poverty survey: Marvi

ISLAMABAD, Pakistan: Minister of State and Chairperson Benazir Income Support Programme (BISP) Marvi Memon Thursday said that no political influence would be allowed in the fresh poverty survey so that no needy could be deprived of it.

She said this in her address to the elected representatives of local bodies, notables and beneficiaries during her visit to Haripur and its adjacent villages of Khall Bala and Ghair Khan.

National Socio Economic Registry (NSER) updation would be another milestone for BISP.

BISP has geared up all its efforts for NSER update.

Keeping in view all the factors like low accessibility, difficult terrain and security situation, modern techniques would be employed in the upcoming survey.

BISP is all set to initiate the pilot phase of new poverty survey after Ramzan followed by national roll out in January 2017.

In order to make new poverty survey accurate and dynamic, two different approaches- desk approach (self registration) and door to door approach- will be utilized in the pilot phase districts.

Door to door approach will be employed in 12 pilot districts while desk approach will be used in the rest of four pilot districts.

Under the directions of Prime Minister Muhammad Nawaz Sharif and Finance Minister Senator Ishaq Dar, it has been decided in principle that whole of the country will be covered equally in the upcoming survey and no area will be left out.

Chairperson BISP is visiting the pilot phase districts in a bid to devise an effective strategy for resurvey in consultation with local government, administration and other stakeholders and to create awareness among masses regarding resurvey.

As accurate data is pivotal for effective policy making and better targeted programs, BISP is fully committed to document the best NSER in the world.

Chairperson has received commendable response from the administration, elected representatives and people of Turbat, Qila Saifullah, Naseerabad, Thatta, Sukkar, Chakwal, Charsada and Mohmand agency.
