ISLAMABAD, Pakistan: The Opposition boycott seems to have yielded results as Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif has decided to attend proceedings of the National Assembly and take the opponents on board regarding his family’s offshore companies.
In reply to a point of order raised by the Leader of the Opposition Syed Khursheed Ahmad Shah, the Federal Information Minister Pervaiz Rasheed told the House on Tuesday that the prime minister would attend proceedings of the Lower House of the Parliament on Friday and reply to questions raised by the opposition.
Earlier, the pSpeaker National Assembly Sardar Ayaz Sadiq began presiding over the session of the House; however, the opposition parties staged walk out over absence of the prime minister in the House.
The opposition parties on Monday announced a boycott of proceedings of both the Senate and National Assembly until the prime minister came to the Parliament and explained his position over his family’s offshore holdings.
Meanwhile, Syed Khursheed Shah presided over the session of the opposition parties in Islamabad on Tuesday in which Pakistan People’s Party’s (PPP) Senator Aitzaz Ahsan, Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf’s (PTI) Shireen Mazari and Jahangir Tareen, Sheikh Rasheed Ahmed of Awami Muslim League (AML) and Tariq Bashir Cheema were present.
Later talking to media, Khursheed Shah said that we would wait for the prime minister in the Parliament. He said that there were allegations on the prime minister and his family which we wanted be answered by the prime minister.
The opposition leader once again called upon the prime minister to disclose the details of his assets.
