ISLAMABAD, Pakistan: Minister of State for Information Technology and Telecommunications, Mrs. Anusha Rahman Thursday said prime importance be given to affordability and accessibility when it comes to provision of telecom services in unserved and under-served areas.

Directing Universal Service Fund (USF) at its 44th Board of Directors meeting here, she said there was a need to have a study done and present an alternative strategies for broadband coverage.

The management was directed to propose options for improvement of the process to enable optimal infrastructure sharing on USF deployed project both on coverage and fiber programme, she said while chairing USF Board’s meeting.

The meeting took an overview of two years plan along with main efforts and development of telecom services in un-served and under-served areas throughout length and breadth of the country by USF.

The Board of Directors took into consideration the project for provision of Information and Communication Technologies (ICTs) for Basic Education Community Schools.

Other Board members including Secretary IT, Rizwan Bashir Khan, Member Telecom, Mudassar Hussain, Chairman Pakistan Telecommunication Authority (PTA), Dr. Syed Ismail Shah, Chief Executive Officer Mobilink, Jeffery Alan Hedberg, Vice President of Internet Societies of Pakistan, Azfar Manzoor and CEO USF, Faisal Sattar attended the meeting.
