ISLAMABAD, Pakistan: Minister for Information, Broadcasting and National Heritage Senator Pervaiz Rasheed on Friday said that 4,116 employees were working in Pakistan Television (PTV) in different grades and cadres.

Replaying to a question in the Senate, the minister said that employees working against the sanctioned posts in PTV were sufficient to cope with the work-load.

He said PTV was a national institution and it has vast coverage across the country while its working hours were more than private channels.

He said that PTV has stations at Lahore, Peshawar, Quetta and Karachi as well adding that the rules and regulations of PTV were different as compared to the other private channels.

He said, however, the need of the professionals in the fields of News, Current Affairs and IT varies from time to time.

The professionals and anchors were always employed on contract basis and as per requirement for the smooth running of the transmission, he said.

To a question about promotions of the employees, the minister said that he had a meeting with MD and Chairmen PTV in this regard and the matter would be resolved in three months.

To another question, the Minister said, a policy was under consideration to highlight Pakistan’s real face to the world through film industry.

He said a number of countries like India, Iran, China etc were getting their diplomatic goals through music, art and film.
