RAWALPINDI, Pakistan: The US special representative for Afghanistan and Pakistan Richard G. Olson held a meeting with the Chief of Army Staff (COAS) General Raheel Sharif at the army’s general headquarters in Rawalpindi on Monday.

In a press release, the Inter Services Public Relations (ISPR) said that during the meeting overall regional security situation with particular reference to situation in Afghanistan came under discussion.

The ambassador also appreciated the efforts of Pakistan in fight against terrorism.

Pakistan along with the United States and China continues efforts to bring lasting peace in war-torn Afghanistan, and in this regard, the Quadrilateral Coordination Group (QCG) has held four rounds of talks as part of efforts to bring both the Afghan government and the Taliban on the table.

“Pakistan has been engaged in sincere and consistent efforts for promoting lasting peace and stability in Afghanistan,” the Foreign Office Spokesman Nafees Zakaria said told media representatives in Islamabad on April 7.

The spokesman said that Pakistan has been making serious efforts to facilitate an Afghan-owned and Afghan-led peace process.

“We believe that a politically negotiated settlement is the most viable option for bringing lasting peace to Afghanistan,” the spokesman said.
