Government of PakistanNICs, passports of proclaimed offenders to be blocked: Nisar

ISLAMABAD, Pakistan: Minister for Interior Chaudhry Nisar Ali Khan Friday directed the Islamabad Capital Territory (ICT) Police to prepare computerised database of all proclaimed offenders in coordination with National Database and Registration Authority (NADRA).

The minister also ordered immediate crackdown against proclaimed offenders and blockage of their computerised national identity cards (CNICs) and passports immediately.

Besides mutual sharing of database between Federal Investigation Agency (FIA) and Police about the proclaimed offenders, he directed that a comprehensive and integrated strategy should be followed to apprehend those criminals and producing them before courts of law.

The minister was chairing a high level meeting of ICT Police, FIA and senior officials of Interior Ministry here.

Secretary Interior and Special Secretary, Secretary Capital Administration and Development Division (CADD), Capital Development Authority (CDA) Chairman, NADRA Chairman and ICT Chief Commissioner also attended the meeting.

The Interior Minister said it had been decided that in future no public gathering of any kind would be allowed at D-Chowk. He directed the CDA to start dismantling the present structure at D-Chowk immediately so that the whole area was properly redesigned and made more purposeful.

He said it was quite unfortunate that the Parade Lane was used for political or other purposes, which not only jeopardized the security of entire Red Zone, including that of important buildings in the vicinity, but also created huge inconvenience for the residents and working classes of the Federal Capital.

He directed the CADD and Interior Ministry to formulate comprehensive proposal for the approval of the Cabinet.

The minister underscored the critical role of administration and police in maintenance of law and order, and ensuring safety and security of public and private properties.

He said that any dereliction on part of the administration in performance of their core functions was unacceptable.

The minister also reviewed the progress into the arrests of NADRA employees, who were involved into corruption and issuance of CNICs to the foreigners.

He directed the NADRA Chairman and FIA authorities to gear up efforts to purge the organization of all corrupt elements.

The minister also decided to initiate Home delivery Service of passports internationally and provide this facility to Pakistani expats across the globe.

The Director General Immigration and Passports informed the minister that online renewal facility of passport was ready to be launched.

Initially the facility would be available to Pakistani expats across the globe and later on it would be extended to all major cities of the country, he added.
