ISLAMABAD, Pakistan: Defense Minister Khawaja Muhammad Asif has expressed the hope that Afghan peace process would yield positive results.

Talking to Voice of America (VOA), he said that peace in Afghanistan is necessary for the entire region and Pakistan would continue supporting the peace process.

He said “Every step which is being taken for peace in Afghanistan is important for the region.” “Peaceful Afghanistan is very important for Pakistanis and Pakistan”, he added.

He said “the common purpose of Pakistan and Afghanistan is to establish peace which is inevitable for us so that we may get rid of terrorism.”

Khawaja Asif said that Pakistan will play its role in the efforts of four countries to establish peace in Afghanistan.

He said, “We are putting in serious efforts for peace in Afghanistan and hope that rest of the three countries – Afghanistan, China and the United States – will also make serious efforts”.
