National AssemblyPopulation census was postponed on Army's request, NA told

ISLAMABAD, Pakistan: Parliamentary Secretary Finance Rana Muhammad Afzal Khan on Tuesday informed the National Assembly that the decision to postpone population census was taken unanimously in the meeting of Council of Common Interest (CCI) on the request of the Army.

Replying to a Calling Attention Notice of Naemma Kishwar regarding postponement of census and non-inclsion of cloums of disabled persons in the census form, he said the questions in the form were rootcause of concerns of the pubic. Disabled persons would be included whenever census took place in the country, he added.

The government had already released Rs.14 billion for census but CCI postponed census on the request of Army.

He said census form comprised of 12 questions including information about disability.

He said the government has adopted best internal criteria for holding census so that nobody raise objection on its transparency.

Replying to question, he said that Balochistan government and Bureau of Statistics are working on mechanism to filter out Afghan refugees from census.
