ISLAMABAD, Pakistan: The Law Enforcement Agencies (LEAs) has registered 2,067 cases and arrested 1,818 persons as part of steps to prevent new publication of provocative sectarian literature and removed the existing provocative literature.

According to official sources, ending sectarian terrorism is an important pillar of National Action Plan (NAP) and these actions not only depend on specific steps but also include processes to reverse trends of sectarianism.

The systematic action against authors, publishers, distributors and retailers is creating visible impact, the sources claimed.

Ministry of Interior’s data released on Thursday reflected implementation status of NAP till November last year. The data revealed that of the total arrests made on these charges, 117 persons were acquitted.

During its subsequent meetings at different levels after NAP’s establishment, all provincial governments have been sensitized to launch effective campaign and crackdown to counter new publication of provocative sectarian literature in the country and to remove the existing such literature.

The data showing results achieved also said the LEAs confiscated huge material and sealed 73 shops.

In province of Punjab, Mutahidda Ulema Board (MUB) has been established to recommend hate literature for banning and Home Department take administrative decision in this regard.
