BusinessPIA employees being misled on privatization issue: Ishaq Dar

DUBAI: Minister for Finance Senator Muhammad Ishaq Dar said on Thursday that some elements were trying to mislead employees of Pakistan International Airlines (PIA) on privatization of the national flag carrier.

“Some hidden hands are trying to create misunderstanding on the issue of privatization of PIA regarding their job security,” he replied a question during his press conference after conclusion of talks with IMF.

He said, it was against the policy of government to lay off or sent home any employee of PIA, adding, “We only want this loss making unit to become a profitable entity through strategic partnership.”

Expressing his deep sorrow over tragic deaths of two PIA employees during protest in Karachi, the minister said that a committee has been constituted to probe into the incident.

He said the government is striving hard to put the country on the path of development and progress to benefit 180 million countrymen.

While highlighting the steps taken by the government for the improvement of PIA, Ishaq Dar said that around 22 new aircrafts have been inducted in the existing fleet of the airline besides the financial support during the last 30 months.
