PakistanSC allows Waheeda Shah to contest elections

ISLAMABAD: The Supreme Court of Pakistan (SC) on Friday allowed the Pakistan Peoples’ Party’s (PPP) leader Waheeda Shah to contest the upcoming general elections, Dispatch News Desk (DND) reported.

Shah was declared ineligible by the Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) to contest elections for two years after she slapped an Assistant Presiding Officer (APO) during polling on Feb 25 last year in the by-election of the PS-53 constituency of Sindh Assembly in Tando Mohammad Khan.

While hearing a case regarding Shah’s disqualification to contest for two years, the SC terminated her disqualification and allowed her to take part in the coming polls, sources told.

It may be mentioned that Shah had filed a petition in the apex court against her disqualification by the ECP. She stated in her petition that as her appeal against the disqualification is pending in the Supreme Court so till the decision of her appeal ECP’s verdict should be suspended.
