NewsBacha Khan University attack: Afghan President refuses claims of hosting TTP

KABUL, Afghanistan: Afghanistan has rejected the perception that its soil was used in the Bacha Khan University attack, saying it neither supports any terrorist group nor provides shelter to terrorists.

“Afghanistan believes that there was no good and bad terrorist and all had the agenda of killing innocent people and spreading terror,” said a statement issued on Friday by the Spokesman of Afghan President House.

“A common strategy should be formed to wipe out terrorists from the region,” it said.

On Wednesday morning, at least 21 persons mostly students were martyred when a group of terrorists stormed the Bacha Khan University in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa’s Charsadda town.

Later, the Director General Inter Services Public Relations (ISPR) Lieutenant General Asim Saleem Bajwa claimed that the Bacha Khan University attack was planned and handled from Afghanistan, adding that investigating teams had collected enough evidence to support the claim.

On Thursday, the Chief of Army Staff (COAS) General Raheel Sharif made separate telephone calls to the Afghan President Ashraf Ghani, Chief Executive Dr Abdullah Abdullah and Commander Resolute Special Mission in Afghanistan General John Campbell.

The COAS shared details with the Afghan leaders based on investigations into the Charsadda attack, and informed them that the attack was being controlled from a location in Afghanistan through Afghan mobile phone by a Tehreek-i-Taliban Pakistan (TTP) operative.

The army chief asked for their cooperation in locating and targeting those responsible for this heinous act and bring them to justice.
