TEHRAN, Iran: In next part of his visit to mediate between Saudi Arabia and Iran to defuse the ongoing tension, Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif will shortly arrive in Tehran on Tuesday to hold important discussion with the Iranian President Hassan Rouhani.

His visit is an attempt to defuse tensions between the Saudi Kingdom and the Islamic Republic of Iran as their bilateral diplomatic relations have been cut following the violent demonstrations over execution of prominent Shia Cleric.

Earlier on Monday, Sharif accompanied by Chief of Army Staff (COAS) General Raheel Sharif, National Security Advisor Nasser Khan Janjua and Special Assistant on Foreign Affairs Tariq Fatemi reached Riyadh and met the Saudi King Salman bin Abdulaziz Al-Saud.

During the meeting, the prime minister expressed deep concern over recent escalation of Saudi-Iran tension and called for resolution of differences through peaceful means in larger interest of Ummah, particularly during these challenging times.

The prime minister said that Pakistan always expressed readiness to offer its good offices to brotherly Muslim countries, for resolution of their differences through dialogue and reconciliation.

The two sides also exchanged views on various facets of enduring cooperation with regard to Saudi initiative of formation of the coalition of Islamic countries against terrorism.

“The people of Pakistan would always stand with the people of Saudi Arabia against any threat to the sovereignty and territorial integrity of the Kingdom,” Sharif reiterated.
