ISLAMABAD, Pakistan: The National Assembly on Monday was informed that about 2.028 million Pakistani workers traveled abroad during last three years for employment purposes.

Answering a question in lower house of the Parliament, Parliamentary Secretary for Overseas Pakistanis and Human Resource Development Shafqat Hayat Baloch said 953945 people moved to Saudi Arabia, 112670 Oman, 0.845 million UAE, about 23000 Bahrain, Malaysia 45000 and 277108 people went to Qatar during the same period.

He said National Migration Policy was drafted in 2008 and it could not be finalized due to devolution of the then Ministry of Labor and Manpower following the 18th amendment in Constitution.

To a question of Dr Shazia Sobai, he, however, said about 3.417 million Pakistani workers registered for overseas employments during last five year.

Shafqat Hayat said ministry concerned was making its best efforts to maximize the export of manpower from Pakistan to different countries of the world and the country has signed MoUs with four Gulf Cooperation Council Members including Bahrain, Kuwait, Qatar and UAE in this regard.
