LAHORE, Pakistan: Pakistan Railways has signed an agreement for the purchase 800 hopper Wagons with the cost of Rs 3.92 billion with Jinan Railway Vehicles Equipment Company Ltd and China Railway Rolling Stock Corporation (CRRC).

According to a press release here on Thursday, the agreement was signed by director procurement Ziauddin Qureshi of the PR and the CRRC chief executive in a ceremony held at the Ministry of Railways Islamabad.

Pakistan Railways Minister Khawaja Saad Rafique said on the occasion that these wagons would be arrived in six to ten months from China and would be used for the transport of coal from Karachi and Qadirabad coal power plants.

He said the PR would save Rs 6 billion per annum after the induction of these wagons in the system while Rs one billion had been saved by re-tendering of the wagons.

He said that 205 of total 800 wagons would be manufactured in China while 595 wagons would be made in PR Workshop Mughulpura here, adding these wagons could run at the speed of 100 km/hour.

The minister said the PR was speedily progressing and termed the agreement as a historic one.

He said another tender of 585 hopper wagons would be issued soon.
