ISLAMABAD, Pakistan: Prime Minister Muhammad Nawaz Sharif on Wednesday constituted a six-member committee to investigate allegations regarding alleged involvement of certain individuals in Pathankot incident in India.

The Additional Inspector General Counter Terrorism Department (CTD) Punjab Rai Tahir would be the convenor of the committee while its other members include IG CTD Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Salahuddin Khan Additional, Director Intelligence Bureau (IB) Lahore Azeem Arshad, Director Federal Intelligence Agency (FIA) Lahore Dr Usman Anwar, Brigadier Noman Saeed of Inter-Services Intelligence (ISI) and Lt Col Irfan Mirza of Military Intelligence (MI).

Earlier in the day, the prime minister presided over a high level meeting to review the prevailing security situation in the country as well as the information provided by India about the recent Pathankot terror attack.

The meeting expressed satisfaction that considerable progress had been made in the investigation being carried out against terrorist elements reportedly linked to the Pathankot incident, and decided that a special investigation team would be sent to India to get additional information about the Pathankot attack.

The meeting reiterated Pakistan’s commitment to eliminate terrorism from its soil. It also expressed national resolve not to allow Pakistan’s territory to be used for acts of terrorism anywhere.

The Pathankot attack took place on January 2 in which seven Indian security officials were killed. India accused Pakistan-based Jaish-e-Muhammad of being involved in the attack and asked Islamabad to probe the incident as per information, New Delhi had given to it.

It was told in the meeting that 10 to 12 members of Jaish-e-Muhammad had been apprehended from Multan, Bahawalnagar, Bahawlpur and Rahim Yar Khan as part of the investigation.
