ISLAMABAD, Pakistan: Minister for Planning, Development and Reforms Ahsan Iqbal Thursday said the government was planning to introduce uniform education system in the country by bringing drastic changes in the old curriculum according to rapidly changing modern technology to prepare the youth for future of country.

He said in the era of globalization, the youth had to compete with their international competitors therefore the government wanted to prepare such an education system which must meet the international standard.

Ahsan Iqbal was addressing a day long consultative workshop on “Curriculum Reforms” which was organized by ministry of Federal Education and Professional Training in collaboration with Higher Education Commission.

He lamented that the country’s existing education system lacked the ability to bring creativity, innovation, character building and leadership qualities among the students and still cramming and cut and paste system was existing in the system.

He said the federal government had formed a platform “National Curriculum Council” for the purpose which was comprised of three members each from all provinces.

The minister said the government also initiated three projects to change the education system that were reforms in curriculum to create creativity, leadership and character building abilities among the students; reforms in examination system to test the innovative qualities of the students and teacher training to prepare the teachers according to the modern lines.

Ahsan Iqbal said the new international standard curriculum would also be accepted by the private sector which would help bridging the gap between private and public sector education system.

He said the government would jointly work with the academia and the private sector in order to bring reforms in the education system.

On the occasion, Minister of state for federal education and professional training, Baleegh ur Rehman said during current fiscal year the government allocated Rs 100 million for National Curriculum Council which showed the government’s seriousness in this regard.

He said the Council bring changes by keeping in view of the need of character building, energy conservation, leadership skills and creativity among the students.

He said the Council would also collaborate with all provincial Boards of Intermediate and Secondary Education to bring the reforms.

The workshop was attended by Chairman HEC, Dr Mukhtar Ahmed, representatives from private and public education sector and other officials from the ministry.
