ISLAMABAD, Pakistan: The First Islamabad Sports Games will kick off on Wednesday (December 9) with over 15000 students of private schools of Capital’s rural areas chipping in the extravaganza.

The three-day event being organized by Private Schools Network (PSN) will be held at different venues, including Pakistan Sports Complex Islamabad, G-9 Cricket Ground a and F-9 Park Cricket Ground.

“This is first ever mega event for students of low caste schools of Islamabad’s rural areas. Before this the students of these schools never got such an exposure,” President PSN Dr Afzal Babar told media on Tuesday.

He said that these students belonged to over hundred schools of Islamabad’s rural areas adding that they would chip in different disciplines including cricket, football, badminton and tug of war.

He said that the students of two age groups-nine to twelve years and thirteen to sixteen years would feature in different disciplines.

Babar said that there would be different categories for girls and boys.

“This gala will also serve as a talent hunt programme. We will select 5000 boys and girls from these students and besides giving cash awards to them will provide them scholarships for further education,” Babar added.

He said that the PSN had decided to make sports and scouting an essential part of education.

“We believe that just books cannot produce good human beings. Keeping in view the importance of sports we have decided to hold this event on annual basis.”

He also lauded Pakistan Sports Board (PSB) for facilitating PSN to hold four-day event in a befitting manner.
