FAISALABAD, Pakistan: Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif on Monday questioned the concerns raised by opposition and top military leadership over governance, saying the government continues to make endeavors to steer the country out of crises.

In his address at the construction inauguration ceremony of the Gojra-Shorkot section of M-4 Faisalabad-Multan Motorway at Gojra on Monday, he said that billions of rupees are also being spent in the war on terror and rehabilitation of internally displaced persons (IDPs).

His remarks probably came in another response to the army chief General Raheel Sharif’s statement at the Corps Commanders Conference held in Rawalpindi on November 10, in which he underlined the need for matching and complimentary governance initiatives for long term gains of anti-terror operation and enduring peace across the country.

“What is this if not good governance,” Nawaz questioned as quoted by media after he highlighted government’s performance in various areas.

The Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) has also consistency been questioned about its incompetence and corruption in multi-billion projects like Nandipur power project, and failure to spend on human development.

Sharif said that in order to resolve the energy crises, the government is carrying the construction of a number of power projects including liquefied natural gas (LNG)-based plants with complete transparency.

The premier again reiterated that load shedding will be eliminated in 2018.

The prime minister said that the government is also providing relief to farmers under Rs341 billion kissan package. Similarly, he said that billions of rupees are being spent on the relief and rehabilitation of quake-hit people.

Nawaz Sharif was of the view that as part of his vision to promote economic growth, creation of jobs and regional connectivity, a network of roads is being constructed across the country.

The prime minister said that Motorway is a precious national asset playing an important role in country’s economic development and prosperity.

Sharif said that construction work for the Gojra-Shorkot section of M-4 has been divided in two parts, to ensure its completion in shortest possible time. He said that the saving of Rs4 billion have been made in the estimated costs of this section, as it will be completed at a cost of Rs17 billion instead of earlier estimate of Rs21 billion.

Moreover, he said that the whole nation should support the national agenda to take the country forward on the path of progress and prosperity.

The prime minister said that there is no room for a separate agenda of pulling legs of the nation and the country.

“We should steer the country out of difficulties by working together,” he said.
