ISLAMABAD, Pakistan: National Commission for Human Rights is planning to launch an ambitions project for welfare of marginalized children across the country, said Commission’s Chairperson Justice (retd) Ali Nawaz Chohan.

Talking to media, he said solid measures were being taken to bring marganlized children involved in labour at different workplaces including restaurants, workshops, transport industry as cleaner or conductors, carpet industry etc into a society safety net through a programme, enabling them to support their families.

He said despite financial constraints, the commission had finalized its strategy to work for masses ensuring their rights without any discrimination and hoped, it would soon pursue its activities properly.

“The commission has forwarded a request for Rs. 100 million to initiate new projects of human rights in the country and after its proper functioning, HR situation in the country would be addressed comprehensively.”

He informed that they have prepared a Plan of Action which would facilitate people at grassroots to address their grievances.

Justice (r) Chohan said delay in movement of files is a dilema and those involved in it should be penalized.

Another major recommendation for value services of senior citizens, the commission has also asked that pension papers of any retiring persons should be completed till last date of his service. Their dues should be cleared immediately and those delaying must be held responsible.

The Chairperson maintained that they can take action on any complaint received to commission or take suo moto on any news appeared in section of press regarding human rights violations.

He further informed that their endeavor is to complete proceedings of public complaints and announce decisions in one month. But, it depends on the sensitivity of the case under proceeding.

“Late reply is a common practice but we have a mandate to take action against those who cause unnecessary delay and we would exercise our powers when required,” he further said.

He asked general public that the commission has been set up for their rights protection so they should file complaints regarding violation of their rights.
