ISLAMABAD, Pakistan: The Islamabad High Court (IHC) was informed on Monday that 85 percent of blasphemous content had been removed by Facebook as per request made by Pakistan.

In a report presented to the IHC Chief Justice Shaukat Siddiqui by the Interior Secretary Arif Khan, it was apprised that a letter had been written to the Facebook administration, asking for help in blocking blasphemous content on the social media website.

The interior secretary informed that the Facebook administration responded positively and began blocking such content. He told that 85 percent of blasphemous content on Facebook had already been removed.

The Interior Secretary Arif Khan also apprised the Court of a meeting of Envoys of Islamic Countries convened by the Interior Ministry in Islamabad on March 24, and decisions taken in the meeting.

Arif Khan also told that three persons were apprehended for allegedly being involved in putting blasphemous content on social media.

The Chairman Pakistan Telecommunication Authority (PTA) Ismael Shah told the IHC that a 25-member team had been searching blasphemous content on internet.

The PTA Chairman said that the authority had so far taken action against 40 such pages.

The IHC Chief Justice hailed the performance of the interior ministry in this regard; however, he commented that the Information Ministry didn’t react appropriately.

Justice Shaukat Siddiqui also sought a report on amendments in the Prevention of Electronic Crimes Act 2016.
