JHANG, Pakistan: Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif has said that load shedding has decreased by 50 percent in the country while it will completely be eliminated by 2017-18.

In his address to people after inaugurating work on 1230-megawatt liquefied national gas (LNG) power project at Haveli Bahadar Shah near Jhang on Friday, the prime minister said that load shedding has already decreased by 50 percent in the country because of the steps taken by the government.

Sharif said that the menace of electricity load shedding will be eliminated by 2017-18 after completion of power projects initiated by the government.

The prime minister said that the Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) government is completing a number of power projects run by various sources of energy including water, solar, coal, gas and wind. He said that another new power plant project will be inaugurated at Balloki soon.

Nawaz Sharif said that a new culture of transparency has been introduced in the country under which huge savings have been ensured from the estimated costs of new power projects. He said that through this practice, the government has saved Rs110 billion on three LNG power plants.

The prime minister said that work is also in progress on laying pipeline from country’s coasts to these LNG plants. He said that transmission lines will also be laid for transmission of electricity to the national grid.

Moreover, he said that work is also being done on new hydel projects like Bhasha, Bunji and and Dasu.
