Abdelhamid Abou Zeid of Al- Qaeda’s North Africa wing, has been killed by French forces, Algeria’s Ennahar television said on Thursday. Zeid had been fighting in Afghanistan before leaving for Jihad in Mali.

Television reports that around forty other militants have also been hunted down in the last three days in the Adrar des Ifoghas Mountains near the Algerian border. The French army is continuing to attack militant cells that remain in the country following January’s military intervention to drive Al-Qaeda linked elements out of Northern Mali.
