RAWALPINDI: The Punjab authorities on Saturday extended the curfew in place in Rawalpindi for another 24 hours as it is feared that violence could erupt again after the burial of persons killed in yesterday’s clash at Rawalpindi’s Raja Bazar area.
Meanwhile, the Punjab government set up a five-member committee headed by law minister Rana Sanaullah and comprising Chief Secretary, Commissioner Rawalpindi, Interior Secretary and IG Punjab to probe the violent clashes.
The committee will investigate the matter and present its report to the chief minister within three days.
On Friday, a clash erupted between two groups in relation to the harassment of an Ashura procession in Rawalpindi’s Raja Bazar area, that left at least 12 persons killed and more than 37 others.
Moreover, a curfew was imposed in the jurisdiction of 19 police stations including Rawal Town‚ Potohar Town and Cantonment areas of Rawalpindi till midnight tonight due to tense situation.
