LAHORE, Pakistan: The Punjab Minister for School Education Rana Mashhood Ahmed Khan on Thursday said he was a staunch supporter of Basant festival in Lahore and added that Basant would be celebrated after security clearance.

“We must take security of all into consideration before going ahead with the Basant celebrations,” Rana Mashhood said while responding to the media at the annual sports of Unique Schools at the WAPDA Sports Complex in Lahore.

To a query, Rana Mashhood said Prime Minister Muhammad Nawaz Sharif never gifted any horse to the Ameer-e-Qatar and the letter in this regards was fake, adding that the letter regarding Ameer-e-Qatar was as bogus as that of the letter of placing a biography of Premier Nawaz Sharif at all public libraries.

Regarding education, he said private educational institutions had been lending a hand to the government in the mission of spreading the light of knowledge and Unique had been fulfilling its responsibility satisfactorily.

The minister said the sports days help in mental and physical growth of students while sports provide an opportunity to children take part in healthy activities. The minister said he was impressed with quality of sports and conduct of the sports day.

Rana Mashhood said sports games promote competitions in the educational institutions, adding that sports are an integral part of education.

Lord Mayor Lahore Col (retd) Mubashir Javaid, former great batsman Muhammad Yousaf and fast bowler Muhammad Irfan were the guests of honour at the sports day.

Minister School Education Rana Mashhood also gave away prizes among the position holder students.
